fill the grillIt’s time to fire up the grill, as Whole Foods Market (at the Phillip’s Crossing location) hosts its third annual Fill the Grill Cook-off throughout the month of August.

This year’s cooking challenge, featuring a mighty foursome of Orlando food writers, grants competitors $20 and 20 minutes to shop for ingredients. They are then given 20 minutes to cook up a summer-inspired dish. Here’s the catch: The cooks have to prepare the entire dish by only using a grill.

Round one of this kitchen war (6:30 p.m., Aug. 8) is a battle between food mag editor Kendra Lott of Edible Orlando and blogger Ricky Ly of TastyChomps (whose Food Lovers’ Guide to Orlando we doted on earlier this year). The next week (6:30 p.m., Aug. 15) Christine Pittman of blog Cook the Story takes on culinary writer Nicole Aidelbaum of Where Orlando Magazine. The winners of both rounds will go head-to-head in a final cook-off at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 22, and one will be crowned Fill the Grill champion.

While things are firing up for the four Fill the Grill competitors, Orlando foodies also get the chance to watch each cooking battle go down live by heading to the prepared foods department of the Whole Foods store.
